Volunteer Registration

Questions about volunteering?  Email [email protected]

There are options to register as a volunteer when you register your kids to play.  You can also register as a volunteer after registering your kids.

Register as a volunteer through the My Account section of this site (link in upper right of the page after you log in).

In the My Account section, there is a Volunteer section on the left. Look for this link at the bottom of the page:

Or if that link isn't present, look for a FIND VOLUNTEER ROLES button.

Choose either the Core or EXTRA program for coach, referee, and team parent opportunities - make sure to pick the correct year.  The Board listing is only for those who have already joined the board, please email [email protected] to talk about board roles (we always need help!).  After you choose your program, choose one or more divisions you're willing to help with.

Then choose your role for each division you selected.  For referees, you only need to register for one division - we'll contact you about what games you're willing to do later.

Finally, complete the volunteer application.  As noted on the form, please use your legal name so that it will match during the background check.  The information from this form will be passed to the background check company, so your name needs to match.  The bottom of the form has a place for training certifications.  You DO NOT need to complete the training before applying.  You can complete these trainings later.

Once you submit your application, go back to the Volunteer section of My Account and it should prompt you with next steps for the background check if you are a first time volunteer.

Background Check

If you are a new volunteer, after you submit your application, you should receive an email with information to complete a background check via Sterling Volunteers. You'll need to log into the Sterling site to submit the application.

If you don't see the email, please check these instructions for how to initiate a background check and look for the email you need.

Volunteers do not need to pay for the background check. Program registration fees cover volunteer background check fees.

You may see warnings on the Sterling Volunteers site about your Middle Name.  As long as what's listed for your middle name is blank or doesn't actively conflict with your actual middle name, background checks seem to process OK, so go ahead and submit.  But do make sure your other names match your legal name.  If you need to update your registration information, you can do so on this website ( > My Account > Volunteer > Details button that's under your name.

You can get started on the required volunteer trainings while your background check is processing. See Volunteer Resources > Training for details on trainings required for volunteers.  Plan to complete these trainings over the summer before the season begins. You won't be able to log into AYSOU/etrainu to access online training until the day after you register; the AYSO systems update overnight.
